Hello all. I am taking a trip to Baja this March and would appreciate any advice you have to offer. Specifically, my girlfriend and I will be driving my car south from Los Angeles the morning of Sunday, March 4.
In five days, I hope to take a relaxing road trip as far south as Punta Rosarito and back. I am not interested in touristy, gringo resorty areas, as Tijuana is and Ensenada seems to be.
I am more interested in desolate beaches, good Mexican food, fantastic scenery, and maybe a little shack on the side of the road that rents kayaks by the hour.
My basic questions are: Is this timeframe feasible? Where are some good places to eat/sleep? Do I in fact need a vehicle permit (some sites say no vehicle permit is needed in Baja; others say one is needed beyond the Tijuana-Ensenada border zone)?
Any other advice would also be appreciated. Oh, and I almost forgot: My girlfriend wants to swim with dolphins. How shall I best let her down gently?
Thanks for your thoughts,
Russell
