I guess I'll start off this section of the forum by letting the users know that the Baja Cactus Motel (next to the Pemex) is one of the finest small hotels in the peninsular highway. If you are traveling south it makes a great overnight. It's about 5.5 hours south of the border. Google it for more information.

Hey Ted,

What does it cost to stay there? I noticed that they have a "website under construction" page up....but it is from 2005. Have you ever attended the El Rosario Festival?

Geoff,

How is everything?

Last time I stayed there the price was $35 for the nicer rooms. It may have gone up, but I'm sure just a little.

As far as the El Rosario Festival which celebrates the founding of El Rosario, it's a good time, but different than typical "tourist" town festivals in Mexico. Remember this is a small town with no real tourist infrastructure. It's real Mexico and 97% of the attendees are locals. There's a great rodeo, local displays of it's history and products of today, a beauty pageant, horse races, a small traveling carnival, and more. It reminds me of a small town fair in Kansas in the 1940's.

Have fun if you decide to go and contact Antonio at Baja Cactus asap as his hotel fills with the gringos early as it's the best in town. Mama Espinosas hotel is next door if you need it.

Even if it has gone up that is still really cheap. Thanks for the information. Are you going to be heading down there for the festival this year?

I googled with more information about Baja Cactus Motel i found nice information such as the hotel was quite nice- the rooms were reasonably clean, well priced and well situated (next to Mama Espinoza's Cafe). Just be aware that this is a long time, well known American stop over...

This is the best place to stay in El Rosario! Book ahead...the word is out! We had 10 in our group and our rooms were ready and spotless, all remodeled and very cool. The legendary Mama Espinosas restaurant is right next door!!
