Are tourist cards necessary for all of Baja, or just mainland Mexico?

Hello Chiquita,

You will not need a tourist card if:

The visit in Mexico or Baja is 72 hours or less
AND
The visit is within the limits of a "border zone" or tourist corridor established by the Mexican government. A border zone varies slightly from one Mexican border state to another, but is an area south of the U.S. border down approximately 20 to 30 kilometers (12.4 to 18.6 miles) into Mexico. The tourist corridors are as follows:
Tijuana – Ensenada
Sonoyta – Puerto Penasco
Cuidad Juarez – Paquime
Piedras Negras – Santarosa
Reynosa – China – Presa el CuchilloIf you plan on going further south of any of the above corridors in Baja or Mainland Mexico then you will need a tourist card.

We are going to San Felipe for 96 hrs approximately. Do we need a tourist card?

we have travelled Baja for 30 years, and never had a Tourist card.

I have traveled Baja for quite sometime, stopped at many checkpoints, and never been asked for a tourist card. However, it is always recommended to adhere to Mexico laws when traveling south of the border. It is a great place to visit, but not be a good place to find yourself in trouble.

No there is not necessary to hold tourist card for Mexico if you have tour less than 6 days. Tourists cards are necessary when you are coming from abroad. Policies of Mexico get changing.

Actually Jimmy, it is less than 72 hours. Any longer than that and you need to get one!

The tourist card isn't necessary at all places but you have to have the card if you are planning to stay for days in baja otherwise you might be in trouble.

I agree with Chilean. One of my friends have encountered that situation already when he forgot to bring his travel visa.
